Lagos joined the International Association of Educating Cities

There are already 70 Portuguese municipalities belonging to this international network

The municipality of Lagos became part of the International Association of Educating Cities and of the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities.

Lagos, therefore, assumes itself as an educating municipality, which “implies a coherent vision and actions, in terms of spaces and municipal services”, according to the Lacobrigense Chamber.

"This vision presupposes a convergent intervention, in terms of social and cultural facilities, and in some areas such as accessibility, environment, built cultural heritage, basic conditions for economic development, among others," added the municipality.

The Câmara de Lagos is new to the international and national networks of educating cities, but it has already done some homework, taking into account that «two of the main activities organized by the municipality», the “Saúde em Movimento” project and the “Viv' initiative The Market” «already integrate some of the principles of the Charter of Educating Cities».

The Educating Cities Movement was started in 1990, has more than 300 municipalities spread over more than 30 countries on five continents, and its main objectives are to raise awareness for the development of concerted policies at the various levels of action of the local government. In Portugal, it already has 70 associated municipalities, and Lagos is now one of them.
