Filipe Albuquerque wins 4 Horas de Portimão, the last race of the European Le Mans Series

The Portuguese driver left the third position on the grid to achieve victory

The Portuguese driver Filipe Albuquerque won this Sunday the 4 Hours of Portimão, disputed at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and which was the last race of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).

Starting third on the grid, the Portuguese eventually won the race, with second place being achieved by Will Stevens (Panis Barthez Compétition) and third by young driver Will Owen, from the same Albuquerque team, United Autosports.

«I am so, so happy. I've been running in Portugal for ELMS for a few years and I still hadn't achieved this result. The happiness is immense not only for me, but for my teammate, who did an outstanding job, and for the team, which provided us with a spectacular car», said Filipe Albuquerque, at the end of the race.

In the ELMS championship standings, the winners were Italian Andrea Pizzityola and Russian Roman Rusinova. The Portuguese Filipe Albuquerque finished the season in 6th place overall. His team, United Sports, was 4th.

For the next season of 2019, which starts in January, with the preparation tests for the 24 hours in Daytona (USA), Filipe Albuquerque has already announced that the goal is «to get the title in the ELMS».
