Alexandre Martins Lima is the new Regional Education Delegate, following the resignation of Francisco Marques from the Services Directorate for the Algarve Region of the General Directorate of School Establishments (DGEstE).

Francisco Manuel Marques, appointed on February 16, 2015, kept on functions illegally for a year and nine months, after the contest that selected it has been cancelled. In the same illegal situation, was the regional delegate of Alentejo, Manuel Barroso, also now exonerated by the Assistant Secretary of State and Education, Alexandra Leitão.

The former delegate of the Algarve was the target of two disciplinary proceedings for alleged misconduct and misuse of a vehicle for personal purposes, opened by the General Inspectorate of Education, but this was not the direct reason for his dismissal.

On the DGEstE website, an order from the general director explains that, for the new competition, there were 10 candidates, «the position of Master Alexandre Martins Lima having been filled, effective on October 10, 2018».

The new person responsible for Education in the Algarve has a Master's degree in Observation and Analysis of the Educational Relationship and a degree in Computer Science from the University of Algarve, as well as a member of the National Exams Jury, a position he had recently competed for.

As the responsibility for DGEstE's Services Directorate of the Algarve Region is a position of "1st Grade Intermediate Management", it is not necessary that its provision be made through a CRESAP (Recruitment and Selection Commission for Public Administration) , by opening a public tender within the scope of the Public Employment Exchange, which had been done on March 21, when the tender procedure was published in Diário da República.

Sources linked to Education in the Algarve, namely teachers and parents, contacted by Sul Informação, expressed their satisfaction with the appointment of Alexandre Lima.

«Although the Algarve region has very little autonomy, since there is no longer a Regional Directorate of Education [while the Government of Passos Coelho was still in force] and there is now only one Directorate of Services, the truth is that the new delegate is expected can give a different dynamic to an industry that is going through a phase of transition and great upheaval. There are projects at a standstill, there are ideas stuck, which we now have the possibility of putting back into motion», a secondary school teacher who does not want to be identified told our newspaper.

Yesterday, the new regional Education delegate was present at the reception ceremony for teachers from the municipality of Portimão, which was attended by the Assistant Secretary of State and Education. On the occasion, Alexandra Leitão took the opportunity to greet the newly appointed regional responsible.
