Albufeira, Alcoutim and Loulé are among those nominated for Municipality of the Year

Awards will be given on November 16, in Guimarães

The municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim and Loulé were nominated for the Municipalities of the Year Awards – Portugal 2018, which will be presented, on the 16th of November, at Paço dos Duques de Bragança, in Guimarães.

This competition «aimed at recognizing the good practices of projects implemented by municipalities with an impact on the territory, the economy and society, promoting growth, inclusion and sustainability.

The municipality of Albufeira was named by GTI project – Elderly Working Group, Alcoutim due to Smuggling Festival and Loulé due to the exhibition LOULÉ. Territories. Memoirs. Identities.

In addition to the Algarve municipalities, they are named Avis, Coruche, Santarém and Sines (Alentejo); Cascais, Lisbon, Mafra and Sesimbra (Lisbon Metropolitan Area); Arouca, Espinho, Gondomar and Vila Nova de Gaia (Metropolitan Area of ​​Porto); Águeda, Mealhada, Oliveira do Hospital and Seia (Center); Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Idanha-a-Nova, Lousã and Sátão (Center with less than 20 thousand inhabitants); Braga, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo and Vila Real (North); Alfândega da Fé, Armamar, Montalegre and Valpaços (North with less than 20 thousand inhabitants); Horta, Madalena do Pico, Ribeira Grande and Vila Praia da Vitória (Autonomous Regions).

The Municipality of the Year Awards – Portugal 2018 are organized by the University of Minho, through the UM-Cities platform, and by the Municipality of Guimarães.

This fifth edition had 56 applications, with projects from 35 municipalities nominated for nine categories and for the grand final prize.
