Mobility Week has a solar boat, 100 school bikes and an app with Lagoa routes

Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Portimão and São Brás de Alportel are the Algarve's municipalities that have joined yet another European Mobility Week

The “100 Bikes Day” at Loulé schools, a solar boat ride along the “banks of the history of Arade”, in Portimão, or the launch of an application with nature trails in the municipality of Lagoa. These activities are part of the European Mobility Week, which takes place from 16 to 22 September in six municipalities in the Algarve. 

This year's theme is “Combina e Move-te”, aiming to emphasize multimodal transport. The aim of this European Commission initiative is "to facilitate a broad debate on the need for changes in behavior in relation to mobility", with more impact on "the use of private cars".

As usual, the European Car Free Day will be the culmination of activities throughout the Week.

 

Faro:

In the capital of the Algarve, on the 22nd of September, European Car Free Day, there will be activities in the Figuras Leisure Park area, with Rua António Henrique Balté being closed to traffic.

With the support of the Sports Division of the Chamber of Faro, there will be a city bike ride at 10 am and a lecture on “Cities for People” in the late afternoon.

 

Lagoon:

In Lagoa, on the 21st, there will be a visit to existing mobility projects in the municipality. It is also planned to present the investments made in this area, as well as the launch of an application, linked to Smart City.

In this application, the bicycle paths and pedestrian paths of the county will be indicated, with indication, also, of the nature trails.

 

Lagos: 

Lagos, with the collaboration of companies and associations in the municipality, is once again joining the European Mobility Week with a program of activities linked to this year's motto, “Combina e Move-te!”.

From 16 to 22 September, the invitation is to leave the car at home. Urban transport in Lagos “A Onda” will be free. Bike rental will, in turn, have a 30% discount for residents in the municipality, at Lagos Bike Tours, Rent a Bike and Easy Go stores. bicycles will even be free.

The purchase of bicycles has a 20% discount at Xtreme Lagos. The invitation is also for the young students to go by bicycle, skate or rollerblade to school.

On the 16th, at 9:30 am, there will be a bicycle tour around the city, starting at Parque da Cidade. Registration is free until 17:00 pm this Thursday, September 13, and can be done by calling 282 780 900.

On the same day, there is a skateboarding demonstration at 17:00 at Skate Parque de Lagos.

For the 19th of September, a walk is scheduled at 19:30 pm, departing and arriving at the Municipal Sports Complex. The route is 8 kilometers.

The municipal company Lagos em Forma, in turn, offers free use of the swimming pools, gym and classes at the Municipal Sports Complex. The celebrations end with a walk at sunset, at 18 pm.

The route will be from the Anel Verde to the Ponta da Piedade walkways, with time for Thai Chi and a drink.

 

Loulé:

The street event “PARK(ing) Day – Take your place in the city”, to be held on the 21st, from 18:00 pm to 23:00 pm, in Praça da República, is one of the highlights of the Mobility Week, in Loulé.

The event “PARK(ing) Day – Take your place in the city”, in its 3rd edition, includes a wide exhibition and demonstration of various products and services related to the themes of smart mobility, healthy lifestyle, energy efficiency, energy clean, reuse of materials, environmental sustainability and climate adaptation, with spaces being made available in areas where vehicles are normally parked on a daily basis.

The "PARK(ing) Day" is aimed at companies, stores and institutions, preferably based or with facilities in the municipality of Loulé, that wish to occupy a parking space in the event space for dissemination and promotion of their products or services, which relate to these themes.

With this initiative, it is intended, therefore, «to make the population in general aware of the need to reduce the environmental impacts of urban mobility, promoting new forms of travel in urban areas and the use of public space», says the Câmara de Loulé.

Among the activities planned are an urban bike ride, a walk/run “Loulé Adapta”, health screenings, Test Drive and exhibition of electric vehicles, traditional games, educational films about climate change and promoting the adhesion of local businesses.

In parallel, other activities are carried out. On the 18th, from 14 pm to 00 pm, in the auditorium of Escola Secundária de Loulé, the Seminar Loulé Adapta – Urban Mobility will take place.

Throughout the 19th, schools in the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education and secondary schools receive the “100 Bikes in Schools Day”.

In order to involve the school community in the philosophy of this Week, the City Council appealed to educational establishments to gather on this day, on this day, at least 100 bicycles in each school, brought by students, teachers, animators or assistants.

Students from schools are also participating in the pedagogical activities scheduled for the 21st, at Praça da República, from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm. From 18:00 to 23:00, it is time for “PARK(ing) Day” in this same location.

On the 22nd, the European Car Free Day is marked at Praça da República, in Loulé, with initiatives from 9:00 am to 17:00 pm.

 

Portimao:

From 16 to 22 September, Portimão will promote and make known different modes of transport available for travel and tours in the city, as well as launching the debate around the issue of urban mobility.

During the European Mobility Week, an invitation is launched for people from Portimo to circulate and rediscover the city and surroundings, using alternative modes of transport to those they choose for their travels, providing discounts and special conditions, not only on the Come and Go circuit. urban, such as TukTuK tours, electric tourist trains, City Tour Portimão bus, solar boat and eco-friendly vehicle rental.

Thus, in that same week, residents in Portimão can feel like “tourists in their city” and enjoy special prices for a Tuk Tuk ride in Portimão and Alvor with Allgav TukTuk (on the 20th) and Suntuk ( throughout the week), use the system Hop-on hop-off from the City Bus Portimão on the Portimão-Praia da Rocha-Alvor route, free for children up to 12 years old, and combine it with one of the tourist train tours of Praia da Rocha (only on the 16th) and Alvor (during the whole week), with reduced tickets.

You can also go on a solar boat, with the Algarve Sun Boat, which, on the 16th and 19th of September, in collaboration with the Portimão Museum team, will sail «on the banks of the history of Arade» and offer a 50% discount on trips, in addition to the offer of a free entry to the Museum of Portimão.

The European Mobility Week program in Portimão will also provide special conditions for the rental, and even sale, of “environmentally friendly” vehicles, from city bikes (city ​​bikes) and electric bicycles (E-bikes), scooters electric vehicles and even an electric city quad (Twizz) with agents who offer this service offer in the Municipality and who have joined the initiative, such as Europcar, OneBike and CocoRent, with discounts ranging from 20% to 40 %.

In order to enhance the use of public transport, the urban circuit of Vai e Vem will be free on the 20th and 21st of September.

To mark the beginning of the European Mobility Week, on the 16th, there will be a Meeting of Antique/Classic Bicycles, promoted by the Cycling Center of Portimão.

This will be «a tour open to the participation of bicycle lovers, which also remembers the time of grandparents, with a route of about 22 kilometers, starting from Pedra Mourinha, passing through Alvor and ending next to Paços do Concelho». says the City Council.

On the 19th, at Café Concerto do TEMPO, between 18:00 pm and 20:00 pm, there will be space for debate on various issues related to mobility in an urban context, at the meeting “À Conversa sobre Mobilidade Urbana”, which will be attended by Isilda Gomes , president of the Portimão Chamber, and Castelão Rodrigues, vice president.

Paulo Pinheiro, administrator of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, will be invited to share his vision of the next developments in the automotive industry at this level and which cities will be better prepared to lead these trends.

On this occasion, the preliminary results of the Transport Operational Plan that has been worked on by TIS-Transportes, Inovação e Sistemas will also be presented, in order to assess the current Vai e Vem network and provide the municipality of a strategic and operational document that will soon allow to reassess and improve the circuit's mobility.

«Since walking is not only a healthy way to keep fit, but also a sustainable way to get around the city», on September 20th, the invitation to “Walk around the city” is launched, under the guidance of a technician of the Sports Division of the Municipality of Portimão. The walk is scheduled for 18:30, lasting 60 minutes and starting at the Pavilhão Gimnodesportivo Municipal de Portimão.

 

Sao Bras de Alportel:

São Brás de Alportel celebrates the European Car Free Day with the motto “Circular is good all year round”. Traffic will be cut off on Alberto Sousa Street, between the Saber roundabout (Skate Parque) and the Empreita roundabout (Indoor Pools), to make room for sports entertainment and other activities.

On "foot, by bicycle, on roller skates, on a skateboard, accompanied by a baby carriage, or with any other non-polluting means of transport", São Brás invites "no one to stay at home".
