Mértola invests almost 3 million euros in the new Home of the 5 Parishes

New home will create 25 to 30 jobs in a municipality where they are scarce

An investment of almost 3 million euros, but of «total importance for the council». This is how Jorge Rosa, Mayor of Mértola, describes the future Lar das Cinco Freguesias, with capacity for 63 people, and whose foundation stone is laid this Saturday, September 8, at 11:00 am, in the town of São Miguel do Pinheiro.

This ceremony will be attended by Vieira da Silva, Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security.

In statements to the Sul Informação, Jorge Rosa, Mayor of Mértola, added that the municipality "decided to move forward with the work", despite "an attempt to form a partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mértola failed".

The name Cinco Freguesias for this home is due to the fact that «this process started with five of the nine parishes in the county», explained the mayor.

Even so, the home will be made to serve "the whole county". "Priority will be given to people from Mértola, but in the long term, we can receive people from other locations," said Jorge Rosa.

This infrastructure, which will have social rooms, as well as 18 single, 21 double and three triple rooms, will also have the valence of home support.

The home will consist of two floors, sanitary facilities adapted for people with reduced mobility, a cafeteria, as well as outdoor spaces.

As for employability, the project is also "important", as "between 25 and 30 jobs will be created in a municipality where employment is scarce", considered Jorge Rosa.

«Mértola needed a lot of this and it is an important investment, in a municipality with little economic dynamism», concluded the mayor.
