The Municipal Councils of Mértola and Alcoutim are promoting, on the 25th and 26th of September, Jornadas do Mundo Rural, to be held at the Cineteatro Marques Duque, in the Alentejo town.
This joint organization stems from «an integrated vision of territory that understands that the geography of the problems and challenges that these two Municipalities face (very low density, vulnerability to desertification and climate change) does not fit in with the administrative geographies of the territories. In this sense, these two Municipalities have initiated a set of joint and/or complementary reflections, initiatives and projects in various areas», explain the organizers.
The theme to be addressed will be Biodiversity, Agroecology and Food, focusing on the development strategies of these territories around the safeguarding and valorization of their natural resources, in particular, their biodiversity understood as a territorial asset and a factor of competitiveness.
In this presupposition, the promotion of “agroecological” practices, as well as the progressive implementation of more sustainable local agro-food contexts, is considered as a determinant factor.
The program includes the participation of several experts on the topics under discussion, the dissemination of examples of good practices already in progress, and the presentation of practical projects for the territory.
On the 26th, the documentary will be presented Wild Guadiana carried out by Daniel Pinheiro, within the scope of the Bio Generation project that the Mértola City Council promoted under POSEUR.
For that day, there is also a technical visit to Herdade dos Lagos, recognized for the application of good practices in the management of natural resources and multifunctionality in rural areas.
