Loulé selected for European climate change mitigation project

By participating in this project, Loulé “will have access to consultancy services, workshops and conferences to promote local climate action for the benefit of citizens”

The Municipality of Loulé was one of the five in Portugal that was selected to integrate the European climate change mitigation project “Bridging European and Local Climate Action” (BEACON)”.

This European project brings together, in addition to Loulé and the other four Portuguese partners (Viana do Castelo, Setúbal, Ansião and Coruche), municipalities in Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Greece and Germany.

By being selected to participate in this initiative, the Algarve municipality “will have access to consultancy services, workshops and conferences to promote local climate action for the benefit of citizens,” according to the Câmara de Loulé.

It will also have the opportunity to present “its own actions and develop new strategies and approaches for mitigating climate change from the exchange of experiences with other European cities”, in regional and European workshops.

O “Bridging European and Local Climate Action” (BEACON) project it promotes climate change mitigation and facilitates exchanges between national governments as well as municipalities and schools across Europe. It is funded by the German European Climate Initiative (EUKI, acronym in German).

The project's objective is to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation and stimulate action on the ground to jointly achieve the ambition of the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015.
In Portugal, the Beacon is coordinated by Gil Penha-Lopes (FC-UL) and João Mourato (ICS-ULisboa).
