The “Sailors of Hope” from the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) will get to know the Sagres training ship from the inside, which will dock tomorrow, Thursday, in Faro. This group is formed by children, parents and health professionals from the Pediatrics Service of Faro and Portimão involved in a project inspired by the 700 years of the Portuguese Navy carried out nationwide.
From the project “Sailors of Hope” was born a book that «illustrates, with drawings made by children and young people admitted to the Pediatric Services of the National Health System, the adventures of the Sagres training ship, creatively highlighting the main moments of this intimate relationship of Portugal with the sea”, according to CHUA.
In addition to the publication of this publication, the project promoted by the Portuguese Navy, «which challenged children admitted to hospitals to be the true heroes of this adventure, also guaranteed the online availability of the painting works on the website of the project “Marinheiros de Esperança” and on the page created for this purpose on the social network Facebook».
«The idea for this project came about through the initiative of Emília Dias da Costa, Francisco Espregueira Mendes and Miguel Marques who, inspired by the commemorations of the 700 years of the Portuguese Navy's formal creation, decided to dedicate a volunteer action, inserted in educational programs to children who are hospitalized in pediatrics», framed the CHUA.
The group's visit to the Sagres training ship is scheduled for Friday, September 6th. In addition to the children, health professionals and those responsible for the Education Sector of the Pediatrics Service of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, the visit will also include the presence of representatives of the Pediatrics Service of the Hospital de Portalegre, who also participated in the project.
