The state of the seahorse populations in the Ria Formosa will be debated on Monday, September 17, at 17 pm, in a forum that will take place at the Municipal Market of Olhão (Fish Market).

The initiative, organized by Sciaena – Association of Marine Sciences and Cooperation and by the Associação Natureza Portugal (ANP) / World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF), supported by the Chamber of Olhão and the Local Action Group of Sotavento, is carried out within the scope of “Let's save the seahorses” project, by the Oceano Azul Foundation and the Oceanário de Lisboa, both sponsors of the session on the 17th.

This campaign aims to raise awareness of the threats to seahorse populations and the problem of illegally catching these fish in the Ria Formosa. In Olhão, “social, legal, economic issues and, above all, the conservation of these populations that were once considered the largest in the world” will be debated, according to the event's organizers.
