Influx of tourists leads the Internal Administration to extend Operation Safe Summer until the 30th

Extension takes into account «the tourist influx that is expected in our country, especially in the Algarve Region»

The Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) has just announced that it has decided to extend Operation Summer Safe in the Algarve until 30 September.

This operation, which started on 15th June and was scheduled for completion on 15th September., will last until the end of the month, «taking into account the tourist influx that is expected in our country, especially in the Algarve Region».

Thus, according to the MAI, the focus is on strengthening the human and material resources of the security forces and services. From the PSP side, the 33 teams of the Intervention Corps of the Special Police Unit (390 police officers), the four teams of Prevention and Immediate Reaction, the mixed policing teams made up of elements of the National Police Corps (CNP) remain. and the French National Police, as well as the reinforcement, whenever justified, of other human resources from other Police Units, made up of Traffic, Rapid Intervention and Prevention and Dissuasion teams.

In the case of the GNR, since the 15th of June, there has been a permanent reinforcement in the Algarve of around 200 soldiers, supported by 19 vehicles, as well as five dog-technical teams and four teams of horse patrol.

The MAI adds that the GNR and PSP will continue to focus their actions in the areas of awareness and road surveillance, namely, in strengthening the police presence at the Airport of Faro, in urban centres, on public transport platforms and in areas close to beaches, “in order to guarantee safety and public order and contribute to the reduction of road accidents”.
