São Brás de Alportel launches project to save water in the mountains

Pilot project for monitoring and controlling consumption aims to make the distribution of water in the mountainous area of ​​the county more efficient and fair

The City Council of São Brás de Alportel launched a pilot project to control and monitor consumption in the mountainous area of ​​the county, namely in places where the multi-municipal water supply system does not yet reach, with a view to saving this essential good and its fair distribution by the population.

For now, the project will focus on the northernmost area of ​​the county, «which includes the sites of Cerro da Ursa, Monte Capitães, Lages and Cabanas, Fronteira and Alfarrobeira, with approximately 20 buildings, where control and equipment will be placed. monitoring of water consumption'.
Later, the monitoring will be extended “to the entire mountainous area”.

With this measure, the City Council wants to make the system, which it manages itself, as efficient as possible, to avoid losses in an area "heavily battered by the scarcity of water caused by the increasingly intense droughts in recent years", according to the City of São Paulo. Bras de Alportel.

The São Brasense autarchy considers “it is essential to metrologically control the consumptions made in each building in order to manage the available water and detect any failures in the supply to the population, which is why the municipality proceeded to purchase meters, an investment that aims to ensure the right of access to the water. distribution of water to all citizens in an equitable and balanced way'.

The Chamber admits, in the future, “to create some procedures” to guarantee the saving of water and the fair distribution of this essential good.
