The PS Algarve guarantees that there are more 164 doctors working in the National Health Service in the region, than there were in 2015, «at the end of the four and a half years of destruction of public health services», carried out «by the previous Government of the PSD'.
This is the response of the socialists to the accusations of the PSD which, this Tuesday, 31 July, went public saying that theThe rise in hiring doctors to face the summer in the Algarve region was a “a resounding failure of the Government”.
According to the PS, “Algarvians do not forget the countless doctors, sometimes complete teams, who have left the public hospitals in Portimão and Faro, even leaving the NHS in rupture with the PSD's governance model for health in the Algarve».
Socialists accuse Social Democrats of "lack of memory". «Perhaps the PSD Algarve believes that the miraculous solution for the arrival of more doctors to the region involves replicating certain “creative engineering” in terms of salaries», says the PS.
The difficulties that the Algarve has in hiring doctors, confess the socialists, are "old, particularly in some specialties, such as anesthesia and orthopedics".
«We do not hide that the exceptional measures for the temporary hiring of doctors have to be redesigned in view of the general lack of interest of doctors to exchange for a few days their usual place of work for another in the Algarve or inland areas, but the PSD has no legitimacy to minimize the recovery work that the Government, the administrations of the ARS and the University Hospital Center of the Algarve and the professionals have been doing over the past three years to reverse the bloodletting that the right has caused in the quality of medicine practiced in the region and in the breakdown of human resources”, reads a PS communiqué.
According to the advanced figures, «the Algarve region has today more 79 specialist doctors and 85 more doctors in training than those who existed in December 2015 in the NHS. Also today, the number of people in the Algarve with a family doctor is higher than in 2015».
"In total there are today in the Algarve working within the scope of the National Health Service more than 164 doctors than those who existed in December 2015 when the PSD left the Government".
At this very moment, says the PS, "two more public tender procedures are underway" for "recruitment of medical personnel for the category of assistant, in the areas of General and Family Medicine, hospital and public health, which will allow the strengthening of the NHS with over 1234 doctors, 66 of whom are destined for the Algarve, two of which for the Division of Intervention in Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies, 25 for various units of the Algarve Regional Health Administration and 39 specialists for the Hospital and University Center of the Algarve» .
