Vitor Reia-Baptista died

Professor at the University of Algarve was responsible for creating the Bachelor of Science in Communication

 

Vítor Reia-Baptista, professor at the School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve, died this Thursday afternoon, August 16, aged 64, from cancer.

Vítor Reia-Baptista, who was born on January 18, 1954, was responsible for the creation of the Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and its subsequent transformation into a two-stage degree (prior to its adaptation to the Bologna process) at the University of Algarve.

He was president (and previously vice-president) of the Scientific Council of ESE and member of the Coordinating Committee of the Scientific Council of ESEC. He was also a member of the UAlg Senate, as well as its Self-Assessment Committee.

Vítor Reia-Baptista had a PhD from the University of Algarve in Communication in Education with a specialty in Media Pedagogy and Film Languages, a Master's in Cultural Communication from the University of Lund in Sweden, with equivalence to a Master's in Social Communication from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a degree in Comparative Literature, Drama-Teatro-Cinema, by the University of Lund with degree recognition by the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

He was also director of the Communication Sciences Course and of the Department of Communication, Arts and Design at the University of Algarve.

The funeral ceremonies are scheduled for this Friday, 17th of August, in the church of Fuzeta, at 11:00 am. After the ceremony, the body will be left for cremation.

The University of Algarve, in a note signed by its rector Paulo Águas, «solidarifies itself with this moment of sadness» and decrees «three days of academic mourning».
