The flames are already very close to the town of Monchique, progressing mainly in the southeast, where all the agglomerates that were in the fire progression zone, along the Savóia road, were successively evacuated throughout the afternoon and night. There are already reports of burned houses in the areas of Cruz de Madeiros and Quinta da Bica Boa, but not only that.
A few minutes ago, the district operational deputy commander of relief operations made a very short statement to journalists, only to say that this is a "very complex situation" and that "all efforts" are directed towards trying to control the fire.
Without answering the questions of the reporters present, Commander Abel Gomes promised to provide further clarification to the press as soon as possible.
At 22:30, there will be a press conference in Carnaxide, Lisbon, to update the national situation.
So far, in three and a half days of fire in the Serra de Monchique, more than 3000 hectares of scrub and eucalyptus have been consumed.
