CHUA denies that the oncology service at the Hospital de Faro have been without emergency appointments

Deputy of the PSD Cristóvão Norte denounced that, on the 1st of August, there were no emergency consultations in Oncology. CHUA says there are no emergencies in this service

A paper posted in the Oncology Department of the Hospital de Faro, I realized that, the day before yesterday, August 1st, there were no emergency appointments. Cristóvão Norte, deputy of the PSD, denounced the case on social networks, but the University Hospital Center of the Algarve «is unaware of the reason why, at some point, the paper was posted», even because the Oncology service «does not have a consultation. urgency".

According to the Social Democrat deputy, this is not an unusual case, since, “over the past few months, complaints have been filed that highlight the unusual frequency with which, without prior notice, this service is closed. Even this week, as it was possible to find out, it is not the first time that has happened».

Cristóvão Norte, in a statement sent to the newsrooms, considers that this situation is “very cruel for the sick and their families and causes an understandable revolt. These patients are among the most vulnerable, fighting an arduous physical and psychological battle, a process that is a very hard ordeal even when they are freed from this disease».

The deputy added that he would send a request to the Minister of Health about "another loss, in the hope that he will strive to eradicate these deprivations to which these citizens cannot be subjected."

However, a source from CHUA assured the Sul Informação that «all services are fully functioning» and that the «Oncology Service does not have an “Oncology Emergency Consultation”, and in case of urgent need for care, cancer patients are treated at the Emergency Service General".

The CHUA explains that "all cancer patients, followed at the Day Hospital or Oncology Consultations, are provided with direct contact with the health professionals of the service so that they can get advice whenever they need to receive the proper referral, or to the service /oncology consultation or to the General Emergency Service».

In response to questions posed by our newspaper, CHUA also says that it is “always available to meet with deputies from all parliamentary groups, whenever they so request, to clarify questions about the institution and the provision of health care to the the Algarve population, allowing them to clarify their questions and contribute to their solution». However, the CHUA note concludes, "to date, we have not been contacted by Mr. Deputy Cristóvão Norte, nor by the PSD."
