130 soldiers from the Armed Forces and the Navy were mobilized to support the fight against the fire raging in the Perna da Negra area, in Monchique. 

On the morning of Saturday, August 4, the Armed Forces mobilized six platoons (five Army and one Navy) and two Army Engineering detachments with a platform and two caterpillar tractors, totaling 130 soldiers for Monchique. committed.

Of these, 111 are from the Army and 19 from the Navy, with 10 light vehicles and 18 medium vehicles.

In a statement, the Armed Forces said that "this new mobilization of military personnel for the Monchique region follows a request from the National Civil Protection Authority that aims to ensure, in particular, post-fire aftermath actions."

This reinforcement joins the 304 soldiers (244 from the Army and 60 from the Navy) who were already on a mission, all over the country, to reinforce the support to the National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC), with special emphasis on the districts of Aveiro, Beja, Braga, Bragança, Coimbra, Évora, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Porto, Santarém and Setúbal.

“This total contingent of military personnel will predictably be committed by 20 pm on Tuesday, 00 August. This extension follows on from the ANPC's request for support to the Armed Forces, which aims to maintain deterrent patrol actions».

Within the scope of the support provided by the Armed Forces in direct support to the populations and their assets and within the scope of protocol plans for Civil Protection, Engineering support and support from the Armed Forces in combating Forest fires, surveillance and aftermath, were carried out until this Saturday 664 missions and 5611 soldiers committed, of which 4488 from the Army and 1123 from the Navy.

The fire, which started in the afternoon of Friday, August 3rd, is still active and the beginning of the afternoon promised to bring more difficulties.
