Portugal's under-19 champions become European champions with the help of the Algarve's João Virgínia

Algarvio started in the final against Italy

The Algarve goalkeeper João Virgínia was crowned European under-19 football champion, after this Sunday, 29 July, Portugal beat Italy by 4-3, in the final of the competition.

João Virgínia, who represents Arsenal, from London, but started playing football for Ferreiras, didn't even start during the competition, but ended up being the gift of the Portuguese goal in this decisive game, contributing to Portugal's unprecedented victory.

On the Portuguese side, the scorers were João Filipe, who scored twice, Trincão and Pedro Correia, who scored Portugal's fourth goal in extra time, in a competition that took place in Finland.

This is not the first international title for Virginia, who, in 2016, was crowned U17 European champion. The Algarve has already been called, to the under-21 of Portugal, under the orders of Rui Jorge.

In an interview with Sul Informação, the goalkeeper confessed, in April 2016, that one of his dreams is to represent the national team in a senior football European or World Cup.

At Arsenal, João Virgínia has also been a key player, in the London under-23, having won the Premier League 2, and is pointed out as one of the biggest promises of European football when it comes to goalkeepers.
