A simulacrum to test the readiness of the rural fire response device in Portimão, as well as to test the emergency and evacuation procedures of the population, will take place this Saturday, July 7th, in Arão and Porto de Lagos. the villages of Portimo in which the “Aldeia Segura” and “Pessoas Seguras” programs are being implemented.
The exercise, which starts at 7:30 am and involves more than 50 workers, will also serve to train the articulation between the Municipal Civil Protection and the Local Security Officers.
The scenario involves two fires that will break out in forest areas in Arão (Mexilhoeira Grande parish) and in Porto de Lagos (Portimão parish) and that will force the preventive evacuation of these populations (at 10:30 am in Arão, and at 11:00 am in the Porto de Lagos .
In this way, it will be possible to “test the evacuation routes and places of refuge recently created and identified in population centers”, according to the City Council of Portimão.
These are the first of seven simulations that the Portimão Chamber will promote, through its Civil Protection service, in other villages in the municipality. The localities in question are those where the “Aldeia Segura” and “Pessoas Seguras” programs arrived, namely Arão, Monte Canelas, Montes de Cima, Porto de Lagos, Rasmalho, Senhora do Verde and Vale Juncal.
“Aldeia Segura” «started in January, with a massive campaign in defense of the rural space».
“Pessoas Seguras” kicked off in June, “with the official presentation of the “Local Security Officers” and their substitutes and the installation of informational gateways and signage for places of refuge in each agglomerate”.
«With these activities, the Municipality of Portimão intends to test its internal organization and capacity to respond to emergencies of this kind, serving this type of exercise to correct errors and identify any need for improvement in the face of existing risks, as well as to operationally validate procedures and plans evacuation measures implemented”, concluded the City Council of Portimão.
In tomorrow's exercise, elements of the Municipal Civil Protection, Firefighters of Portimão, GNR, Sapadores Florestais and Parish Councils will participate.
