Loulé participates in a Gulbenkian project that combines art with education

Two schools in the municipality of Loulé are part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation project

Loulé and Laura Ayres Secondary Schools, in Quarteira, will participate in the AAxEE project, which brings together art and education, in the 2018/2019 school year.

This project starts now, in July, and is inspired by the practice of 10×10 (project of the Discover program of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in which Loulé participated with the Secondary School Laura Ayres in Quarteira and which ended in its 5th edition).

The project involves teachers, artists and students in a work to enhance the curriculum content of the 10th year of secondary education, «stimulating the pleasure of learning and the interaction of perspectives, knowledge and creativity», says Câmara de Loulé.

It also “contributes for teachers to renew their repertoire of pedagogical tools and communication strategies in the classroom”.

A triple and a pair of teachers from the Secondary Schools of Loulé and Laura Ayres de Quarteira applied for this project. Work will begin next week with the Artist Residency, which will take place from the 23rd to the 28th of July, at the Escola Secundária de Loulé, with the participation of artists Aldara Bizarro, Miguel Horta, Miguel Cheta and Sara Martins.

During the first period of the next 2018/19 school year, the workshop consists of the design and implementation of a unique pedagogical project, which applies and experiences in the classroom and in the context of each subject involved, some of the micropedagogies organized in the 10×10 book – essays between art and education.

Teachers and students actively participate in the process, accompanied by the council's two artists, Miguel Cheta, plastic arts, and Sara Martins, dance, and by Dina Mendonça, a philosopher who facilitates the thought sessions and an evaluator, Judith Silva Pereira who follows the entire project.

The work culminates with the holding of "Public Classes", which are presented on February 16, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, where artists, teachers and their students share the process developed with the educational community - teachers, artists, educators, researchers and guardians.

The AAxEE assumes continuous training as an asset for the contribution of quality education, including the integration of the Training Center of the Association of Schools of the Coast to Serra (CFAE), in the two actions that will make up this project – Residence and Workshop.

The relationship with schools is governed by the signing of a protocol between the Municipality of Loulé and each of the schools, in order to guarantee the conditions for the implementation of the project in the respective educational establishments.
