Lagos seeks new operator for urban transport

The tender has a base price of 3,3 million euros

The Câmara de Lagos will open a public tender for a private operator to ensure the operation of the city's urban transport service (A Onda), between 2019 and 2021.

The tender has a base price of around 3,3 million euros and "provides for the maintenance of the 10 lines and circuits currently in existence, which cover all parishes and urban centers in the municipality".

The municipality recalls that «the creation of the urban transport system in Lagos, called A ONDA, dates back to 2008. Since then, successive adjustments have been introduced in order to ensure a good geographic coverage of the municipality and a response to the mobility needs of the population».

Initially, A Onda had six lines, a number that increased to ten, being identified by numbers and colors. These routes, according to the Chamber, "are used by an annual average of 630 thousand passengers, representing a cost of 1,7 euros per passenger".

The Municipality guarantees a level of cost coverage in the order of 43 to 44% (in the last years of operation).

According to data from an elaborated study, «the most popular/used lines are 4/Yellow (Light) to 3/Pink (Odiáxere), Line 2/Blue (Meia Praia / Porto de Mós) and 6/Green ( Barão de São João), which represent 82% of the 1722 daily passengers».

Some lines "record greater demand in the summer period, namely lines 2, 4 and 7/Wave Brown (Bensafrim), while Line 2/Wave Yellow (Light) registers a positive balance of results in the non-school period", he adds. the autarchy.

The decision to launch this competition arose «in view of the recommendations pointed out by the economic and financial study. In addition to the regular service, the operator must undertake the Flexible Service on lines 5, 7 and 8 outside school hours.
