The University of Algarve is collaborating in the creation of a community for Blue Growth in Mediterranean countries. The Algarve university, through CRIA – Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division, was represented in Athens at the “Med Blue Growth Transnational Capitalization & Community Building” event, where this topic was discussed.

This initiative was organized by the horizontal project InnoBlueGrowth, which brings together MED projects dedicated to Blue Growth, including “PROTeuS”, “PELAGOS” and “MAESTRALE”, of which Ualg is a partner.

The session that took place in Greece focused on the “importance of Maritime Surveillance in the MED space”. The creation of a cluster dedicated to Maritime Surveillance in the MED space was, moreover, worked on at a meeting of the PROTeuS project partners, which includes the CRIA of UAlg.

The community to be created will consist of six national nodes, in Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Italy and Portugal. "It will aim to foster business opportunities and explore the market potential of the Maritime Surveillance industry, such as monitoring passenger and cargo traffic, border control, fisheries control, minimizing environmental risks", according to UAlg.

Other topics under discussion were the “Challenges related to the control of borders in the Mediterranean Sea” and the “Capitalization activities and methodologies for the creation of a MED cluster”.
