The project Summer Campus from the University of Algarve, which in July will bring young foreigners to free courses at the Algarve academy, is highlighted in the Brazilian press. news in the magazine «Exam».

This highlight in «Exame» comes «in the same week that Folha de São Paulo, in an article about the growth of Brazilian students in Portugal, mentions the University of the Algarve», says André Botelheiro, head of the communication and protocol office at UAlg .

In statements to the Sul Informação, this official stresses that «it is with pleasure that we see, in the frequent references to Portuguese universities in Brazil, that the University of the Algarve is almost always mentioned and that we have had the interest of the main Brazilian media, with several articles in Folha de São Paulo, Globo, Estadão…».

For André Botelheiro, this happens because «we were the second university in Portugal to sign the protocol with INEP, to accept the grade of the National Secondary Education Examination (ENEM)». Furthermore, «I think there was a communication strategy that has worked, and a word-of-mouth that results from the identification with the university, with the region and with the city. There is a whole set of factors that have led to this media interest».

«Exame» highlights that «University of the Algarve is one of the 29 Portuguese institutions that accept Enem's grade in their selection process and, to attract more Brazilians for graduation, is offering free quick courses».

The magazine also emphasizes that the objective of the initiative «is for students to experience a little of the academic routine of the institution, which is one of the most international in Portugal and receives more than 1500 foreigners per year».

The University of Algarve has, «currently, 600 Brazilians enrolled in its courses. For the 2017/2018 school year, the increase in the number of students in Brazil was 59% at graduation. In the same period, the number of students in Masters courses more than doubled (increased by 103%)", also refers to "Exame".

O Summer Campus it is open to young people aged between 16 and 18, and there are 37 course options, in areas such as arts and design, science, sports, economics, management and tourism, entrepreneurship, engineering and technology, health, or languages and humanities.

The courses have teaching activities in the morning and sports and leisure activities in the afternoon. According to André Botelheiro, the Summer Campus «is an international version of summer courses».

Students are entitled to free room and board and only round-trip travel is not included in the scholarship.
