Vila Real de Santo António City Council concluded the first phase of the work to refurbish the Municipal Market.

«The intervention in the north wing included the replacement of the roof – thus improving the thermal, acoustic and environmental quality of that space – as well as the remodeling of the stalls, sales locations and floors», says the Chamber of VRSA.

The measures also included the remodeling of the WC, the interior painting and improvement of the rainwater networks, providing more comfort and attractiveness to the equipment.

The division of the work into two phases was established by mutual agreement between the municipality and the merchants, so as not to affect the normal functioning of the market during the summer, when the movement of customers increases.

In this first stage, the works were exclusively carried out in the north wing and will be extended to the south wing in October.

Meanwhile, the market is fully functioning with the north area already renovated and the south in original conditions.

The requalification of the Municipal Market of VRSA represents a global investment of 345 thousand euros, plus VAT.

The local authority says that this work "corresponds to an ambition long desired by the population, providing better conditions for those who buy, sell and visit the county".

The idea is also to «make the market more attractive and dynamic, transforming it not only into a point of commerce, but also a place for leisure and stay».
