The portico of the Igreja Matriz de Loulé has already been restored, giving «a renewed image to one of the most visible faces of this ex-libris» of the city.

In an investment of 36 thousand euros, the portico was the target of works that included cleaning, restoration and filling.

At the moment, the restoration of the altarpieces in the chapels of S. Brás and Nossa Senhora da Consolação, elements that were in a very poor state of conservation in terms of wood, tile art and mural painting, is still in progress at the Igreja Matriz. therefore, intervention by conservation and restoration technicians became necessary.

The third phase of this intervention, which concerns the structural recovery of the building, namely in terms of its roof, facades and tower, is in the design phase and will resolve some existing anomalies in terms of construction, functionality and, above all, safety .

This work is part of an extensive intervention that the City Council has been carrying out throughout the Historic Area of Loulé and which will have the most important point here given the centrality and patrimonial relevance of this Church, classified as a Monument of National Interest.

During the MED Festival, which will take place in 15 days, the many visitors expected at this event will be able to appreciate the new “face” of the Igreja Matriz, while inside they will have the opportunity to attend classical music concerts at the MED Classic.
