The Popular Marches take to the streets on the 12th, 23rd and 28th of July, on the Calçadão de Quarteira, showing “the strong parochialism” of that city. 

This is "one of the most typical and characteristic cultural events in Quarteira", as the Câmara de Loulé refers.

The parade takes thousands of visitors to the East Sidewalk who come here to enjoy «this true ethnographic manifestation linked to the sea, namely the costumes, music and choreographies of the participating groups».

On the three nights of celebrations – Stº António, S. João and S. Pedro – hundreds of people from Quartieri parade in one of the biggest events of its kind in the south of the country and which is a tourist attraction in the Algarve at this time of year.

This year there are seven marches representing the city's arteries and neighborhoods. THE emblematic Rua da Cabine, which, in 2017, also participated in the Lisbon parade, on Avenida da Liberdade, this year brings the theme “The Nephews of Ti Anica. 

The children and young people of the António Aleixo Foundation will pay homage once again to the people of the sea, with “A Varina e o Pescador”. The Rua Gago Coutinho March will pay homage to the founders of this pioneering march in Quarteira, with “A Nova Era – Tribute to Origens”, while the Poeta Pardal March this year sings the Algarve, in “Coração do Algarve , Quarteira, beautiful Quarteira”, with all its customs and heritage, ranging from the sea to the Alentejo.

As for the March of Rua Vasco da Gama, it looks back on 26 years of existence with the theme “Reviver Vasco da Gama” and “Picnic à Portuguesa” is the motto for this parade of the girls and young girls of the Florinhas de Quarteira group.

Finally, Rua do Outeiro makes another joyful appearance at this event with “Quarteira em Festa”, which will also be a tribute to the people from Quarteira who have always cherished their marches.

There will also be moments of entertainment on this stage with Koolbeatz (12 June), Dança Arabesque (23 June) and singer Luís Guilherme (28 June).

This is an organization of APROMAR – Association for the Promotion of Marches of Quarteira, Loulé City Council and Quarteira Parish Council. Admission is free.

During these days, in various parts of the city of Quarteira, there are dances, bonfires, basil and artichokes, but also the typical gastronomy of this period, such as grilled sardines or caldo verde.
