They have already been present in Quarteira for 24 years, but this year the challenge is even greater: to parade in Lisbon, at Santo António, which takes to the streets today, in the middle of Avenida da Liberdade. From the Algarve, the march of Rua da Cabine will have a well-prepared choreography, with traditional dance steps, and a motto sung in an anthem: “Viva Quarteira!”.

It all started with an invitation from EGEAC – Equipment Management and Cultural Animation Company, which organizes the Popular Marches of Lisbon. The entity selected the march of Rua da Cabine (which is invited) and now… «we're going there with great pleasure», says, smiling, the rehearser Bruno Guerreiro, to the Sul Informação.

“Many of these marchers have been with me for a long time. We are all excited and looking forward to it. Taking my march to that great stage is a dream come true», he adds.

Bruno has been, together with his mother Leonor Emídio, for 20 years in the organization of this march, he even had invitations to coordinate – and rehearse – Lisbon marches, but he always refused. “I never accepted because I have the Rua da Cabine march in my heart,” he confesses.

In what is one of the last rehearsals before the big day, Bruno Guerreiro shows all this passion: he gives directions and corrects steps, always following closely his “pupils”. All done to the sound of music.

Joy is contagious. Fernando Borges, father of marketer Mariana, watches the training, smiling and humming. “I'm very sorry not to go to Lisbon, but unfortunately it's impossible for me. But Mariana's godparents will be there!», he comments.

Bruno Guerreiro and “his” marchers

In total, 56 people will parade on Avenida da Liberdade, with the motto “Quarteira.pt – the era of new technologies”. And why this theme? Bruno Guerreiro explains: «we are always connected to Internet, which is already part of everyday life. It is impossible to ignore this».

For the choreography, there are, thus, two great “technological flags”, full of emojis, for example. At the Lisbon parade, there will be some differences in relation to what will be presented later in Quarteira, São João and São Pedro: the parade will be held in a larger space, in terms of length, and there will be no use of some props , like some Iphones “to pretend”.

With the time for the Lisbon parade getting closer and closer, marketer Verónica Martins says she is “very anxious” and… “worried”. But he makes a point of adding: «I think everything will be fine!».

Verónica has been wearing “the colors” of the Cabin for seven years and reveals that the training has been “very intensive” because there is “a huge concern for this parade”. As for the theme, «we are already used to Bruno being different and always having something different from other marches», he says.

On the other hand, Rui Miguel, also a marcher, has even seen videos of some Lisbon marches to assess how they are. “I think we are quite on a par with those in Lisbon”, he stresses proudly.

But walking along Avenida da Liberdade is still a challenge. “It's like going back to our first day of marching. There is always that nervousness of not wanting to fail», he says.

The “very good atmosphere” in the Rua da Cabine march contributes to making everything easier, despite some “prejudice in bringing men to the marches”, reveals Rui Miguel.

The truth is that “Rua da Cabine” brings together men, women, young people and others (a little) older. In common, they have a passion for “their” march, whose name they will proudly take to Lisbon.

“Long live Quarteira!”.
