Luís Graça and Jamila Madeira, PS deputies, visited this Monday, 11 June, the emergency works being carried out on the EN125, in the section between Olhão and VRSA, criticizing the Castro Marim and Vila Real Municipal Councils de Santo António, both led by the PSD.

Luís Graça, who is also president of PS Algarve, said that “it is still surprising that Vila Real de Santo António Council, which in the first quarter of 2018 took an average of 396 days to pay its debts to suppliers, has last weeks spent thousands of euros on outdoors giants to demand a work that was already programmed and to be executed».

Accompanied by mayors and local socialist leaders, deputies Luís Graça and Jamila Madeira were at Altura (Castro Marim) to monitor the evolution of the emergency intervention, in charge of Infraestruturas de Portugal.

According to the PS, the delegation was much sought after «by residents who called attention to the state of degradation of the main road or the car parks of Praia da Altura, the county's main tourist destination, full of holes, without sidewalks in the face of the passivity of the Chamber of Castro Marim, which has not invested in those traffic routes for years».

“The mayor of Castro Marim seems more concerned with his party activity than with solving the problems that he was responsible for solving, of which the main entrance to Altura is an example”, considered Luís Graça.

This project on the EN125, with an "urgent nature", is carried out on a section of 38,157 kilometers from Olhão (kilometre 114,6) to the limit of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António (kilometre 152,757), crossing the municipalities of Olhão, Tavira, VRSA and Castro Marim.

According to Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), "work will be carried out at the pavement level, which involves, among others, milling and repaving, the heightening of the shoulders and execution of the horizontal marking of the lane".

In April, IP said the works would be completed "before the summer period" and would start in mid-May, but the truth is that they only started on June 5th. O The 45-day execution period means that, at best, the works are concluded between the 15th and 20th of July, in midsummer, when the Algarve receives thousands of tourists.
