The Association of Users and Friends of the Praia de Camping Park Faro have questions about the City Council's intentions to requalify that space, says she has not yet been heard by the municipality and disputes the idea of rotation. "Init's easier for Santa Claus to come to Faro this year, than there is the requalification of the Camping Park», they say.

At a press conference, António Figueira, president of the association, told journalists that he was surprised that, after advances and setbacks, since the proposal for the requalification of the campsite, in 2015, presented by the CDU was approved., the Chamber has changed its mind to that space, after the relocation of fishermen in that location was foreseen.

The current state of the Campsite

“If you ask us what our position is, we say that we want the Chamber to comply with what it approved in 2015. In this proposal, it was said that the association should be consulted to carry out the work., but this auscultation was not done. So far, the Chamber has not respected the association», considers António Figueira.

Despite the association showing itself available to participate in the future management of the park, this opening collides with the intentions of Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber, who assured this week that «the management will be public, made by the Chamber, we will not grant it to private».

The Chamber wants to denounce the lending contract with the association and implement a rotation regime, with space for tents and motorhomes, but the users of the campsite do not consider the proposal viable. “There are no parks that survive without residents. We want a park, but let it be a park for everyone, where we can stay. There is space for residents and for rotation. We have acquired rights over this space, moral and historical», adds Luís Arsénio, who is also a member of the board of the users' association.

«We want to be part of this space, we want a safeguard», reinforces António Figueira, who considers that «if it wasn't for us, what requalification would there be? What will be born is thanks to us. The population of Faro has always been deceived about our intentions. The population of Faro must thank these people who did the maintenance of the campsite. It was good that President Rogério Bacalhau also thanked him».

There is yet another problem that arises from the end of the lending contract with the Chamber of Faro, guarantee. There are nine families without their own home and, «with the new prices, many of our members will not be able to afford» the house.

According to the association, currently, members pay an average of 70 euros a month for the space they occupy, with the right to water and electricity.
