The Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL) approved the opening of the tender for the creation of a public road transport network, which provides for a direct bus service between the International Airport of Faro and the main tourist centers in the region.

AMAL, which has been managing the Algarve's transport system since 2016, should now launch, by October this year, an international tender, which provides for a concession to a single operator for a period of five years.

In addition to the proposed transport mainly aimed at tourists, such as the Aerobus service (transport between the airport and various points in the region), the new road transport network will include «a redefinition of the currently existing routes and schedules, improving travel options from the interior to the coast”, reveals AMAL.

Also "it must be ensured that all places in the region which have a population of at least 40 inhabitants are covered by a public career".

At the same time, adds AMAL, the tender for the concession of road transport "guarantees the improvement of environmental sustainability, with more modern and more efficient buses in terms of energy consumption".
