On May 9, the municipal company Infralobo will present the Smart Bikes by Infralobo project, a solution for shared-use electric bicycles. This project is part of the Municipal Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change (EMAAC) of the Municipality of Loulé.

The smart resort concept, started in March 2017, with the launch of Infralobo Smart Management platform «now the sector of sustainable mobility has evolved, through the acquisition of a system that integrates a set of 30 state-of-the-art electric bicycles», explains Infralobo.

Strategically distributed along the shared cycle path, in a first phase, the project includes five bicycle stations that will be located at the resort reception, in the square, at the Tennis Academy, at the supermarket in Vale do Lobo and next to the Dunas Douradas reception.

According to the municipal company, "it will still be possible for the user to leave the bicycles in virtual gantries, if the desired station is full and/or the need arises to create a punctual station".

According to Fátima Catarina, Chairman of Infralobo's Board of Directors, «the Smart Bikes by Infralobo project aims to promote the use of bicycles over shorter distances, helping to reduce the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere and improve air quality, a principle of environmental sustainability that is also being applied in other areas. Users will be able to do so free of charge until the end of the summer. This is just one of the new features reserved for 2018, integrated in the shared strategy of Infralobo and Loulé City Council».

The Smart Bikes project “aims to reinforce the measures taken by the Municipality with regard to environmental sustainability, improving the quality of life and contributing to global decarbonisation”.

For Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, «the management of mobility thus assumes special importance at the local level, and it is within the scope of municipal competence that some of the most relevant measures are defined and implemented, namely in the adaptation of urban space to the soft modes of mobility, constituting a commitment and a priority for the municipality of Loulé».

The project website will only be launched on the day of the official presentation, May 9th.
