Local products, with the Algarve goat as the ultimate symbol, gastronomy, tradition and even some more exotic proposals were the ingredients of another edition of the “Terra de Maio” fair, which took place between Friday and Sunday, in Azinhal, municipality of Castro Marim.

The multipurpose space of this village in Sotavento is once again the stage for an event where local riches and those who produce them are the stars. And if the Algarve goat and everything that surrounds it are the great inspiration of the fair, there is room for much more, such as gastronomy and local handicrafts.

This year, revealed to the Sul Informação the vice-president of the Chamber of Castro Marim Filomena Sintra, space was also given to innovation.

“We bet on new entrepreneurs, associated with local products. We have, for example, the new mobile veterinary service, a project by a young veterinarian. We also have other projects that are being launched here, such as the new crepeira and the sangrias based on local products», said Filomena Sintra.

«Above all, we want this fair to highlight the best that is produced in this region of the Algarve. We try to have innovative initiatives, to, on the one hand, attract new visitors to the interior of the Algarve and, on the other, to design these products in a different way, which we think must be cherished», he added.

All of this comes from «the Algarvian goat, an autochthonous breed, whose producers have an association based here in Azinhal, in the municipality of Castro Marim», precisely in the place where the fair takes place.

Another important component of the event was the entertainment, which included cooking demonstrations, tasting of regional products and music.

In the latter case, there was fado, which was brought by the Algharb.Come initiative, by the Backup youth association, a project supported by “365Algarve” which combines the cuisine of Baixo Guadiana with fado and flamenco. At the Castro-Marinean fair, the fado singer Raquel Tavares, who performed on Saturday, was present.

“Terra de Maio” had “365Algarve” in a double dose, since the tourist and cultural entertainment program in the region during the low season also supports “Cabrarte”, in which «the little fiberglass goats that are scattered around they walked around the Algarve accompanied by a theater group from Salir», promoting the fair.

And if the Algarvian goat was queen, it was not without the company of other representatives of the animal world, such as wild boar, hares and partridges, but also royal owls, owls and parrots, who posed for photography with visitors.
