Raquel Tavares will give a concert on the 26th of May, at 22 pm, in the village of Azinhal (Castro Marim), as part of the “Terra de Maio” event, which, this year, joins “Algarb.come”. 

This year embraced by the “365Algarve” program and having as its motto the promotion and increase of the Algarvian Breed Goat and the knowledge and flavors associated with it, the “Terra de Maio & Algharb.come”, which takes place at the Pavilhão Multiusos do Azinhal, offers a diversified program, which includes local cuisine, the sale of traditional products, wine shows, live handicrafts, cooking demonstrations, exhibitions, children's workshops and lots of musical entertainment, with particular emphasis on fado and flamenco in the reflection of that it is the local culture of a cross-border territory.

In gastronomy, the 11th edition of Terra de Maio features two major highlights: on Saturday “Laboratório de Gostos”, with chef Vitor Sobral, a great reference in national cuisine, and on Sunday, the Cataplay project, promoted by the Tertúlia Algarvia e that brings together gastronomy, theatre, live music and even choreography.

Still in terms of gastronomy, there is the 3rd edition of the “Biggest Goat Cheese of the Algarve Breed”, which takes place on the 26th of May, at 18 pm. This was a challenge proposed by the municipality of Castro Marim to ANCCRAL (National Association of Breeding Goats in the Algarve) and which will result in a fresh cheese weighing approximately 00 kilos and 40 centimeters in diameter, for which approximately 80 liters of milk will be needed. .

Always betting on new ways to attract and promote the coming of visitors to the event, this year there will be a free transport network called “A Rota de Maio”, which will allow tourists to stay in hotels in the Mata Rota – Altura – circuit Monte Gordo – Vila Real de Santo António – Castro Marim can travel to Azinhal.

The opening of Terra de Maio, on the 25th, at 18 pm, will be animated by the “Tuna Feminina de Beja” and will be marked by the inauguration of the exhibition “Fado, Heritage of Humanity”, a reproduction of the permanent exhibition of the Fado Museum.

This is followed by a Laboratory of Tastes by the Vila Real de Santo António School of Hotel and Tourism and the presentation of the play 2º Berço da Algarvia” (21:00), by the SATORI Association. After dinner, at 22 pm, there is a ball with Fábio Lagarto.

On Saturday, the morning is dedicated to a seminar, with the participation of the University of Algarve, the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve and the Odiana Association, with the themes of creative tourism, gastronomy and agriculture.

In the afternoon, “Terra de Maio & Algharb.come” offers several gastronomic demonstrations: the “Ronquear do Atum”, by the Confraria de Tuna of Vila Real de Santo António, the showcooking by the chef Vitor Sobral, the bread workshop, the recreation of the “Vila de Amêijoas” and the 3rd edition of the largest goat cheese of the Algarve breed, with a presentation and tasting promoted by ANCCRAL.

As for entertainment, the event will feature the street group “Gaiteiros Abiul”, the Rancho Folclórico do Azinhal, fado with “Valentim Filipe & Raquel Peters” and the grand concert by Raquel Tavares. Closing this night of Terra de Maio will be DJ Gustavo Vera, at 00:00.

For motorbike lovers, the last day of Terra de Maio, Sunday (27), starts at 9:00 am with the 3rd Meeting of Motorbikes, with a meeting scheduled in the village's café square, organized by Associação Recreativa e Cultural do Azinhal. In the same morning, there is a walk, for all who want to join, departing from the Casa do Povo do Azinhal.

At 13 pm, the awards ceremony for the 00nd National Competition of the Algarvian Goat Race will take place.

In the afternoon, the highlight is the presentation of the Cataplay show, scheduled for 17 pm, with a cataplana tasting at the end. There is also the Taste Laboratory by chef David Domingues, from Praia Verde Boutique Hotel. The music will feature the performance of the Sevillian group “Ballet Espanhol Gracia Diaz”, Banda Musical Castromarinense and the group “Makarines”.

On Saturday and Sunday, the 26th and 27th, it will also be possible to participate in artisanal cheese making and shearing workshops, try horse riding and donkey rides, in addition to equestrian demonstrations and an exhibition of animals, especially the goat of Algarvian race.

Co-financed by the 365 Algarve program, “A Terra de Maio & Algahrb.come” is an organization of the Castro Marim City Council, Azinhal Parish Council and the Backup Association, with the Algahrb.come project.

The initiative has the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning, Turismo de Portugal, School of Hotel and Tourism of Vila Real de St. António, National Association of Breeding Goats in the Algarve (ANCCRAL), Casa do Povo do Azinhal, Associação Recreativa e Cultural do Azinhal, brand Natural.pt and is an event integrated in the Blue Flag program.
