Requalification in Culatra Island

The Polis Ria Formosa Society signed this Tuesday, May 22nd, the contract to strengthen the dune cordon of the islands of Armona and Tavira, and this Thursday, the 24th, it will also consign the contract to intervene and requalify the Culatra Island.

The Contract for the Intervention and Requalification of Ilha da Culatra – Núcleo da Culatra, «has the objective of complying with the provisions of articles 38 and 84 of the Orla Costeira Vilamoura/Vila Real de Santo António (POOC VVRSA) Development Plan. of the Intervention and Requalification Project of Ilha da Culatra (PIR) – Núcleo da Culatra», frames Sociedade Polis.

The work aims at «restructuring/requalifying the built core, through the implementation of measures that guarantee the maintenance and restoration of the ecosystem's natural conditions».

These objectives «are achieved with the execution of the various works included in the contract, namely: the hierarchization of the path network and respective requalification; the creation of an equipped and well-structured leisure area; the definition of the Signage, Mobility and Emergency Plan; organization of MSW and recyclable logistics; creation of a dry dock; valorization of the church square; integration of the area adjacent to the berth into the housing core; organization of the support area for fishing and dune rehabilitation with the removal of weeds and replacement of native dune vegetation».

The works, in the amount of 1,31 million euros, will be in charge of the company Vibeiras – Sociedade Comercial de Plantas SA The work will have an execution period of 240 days.

The Contract for the Reinforcement of the Cordão Dunar of the Islands of Armona and Tavira | Praia da Fuseta-Mar and Extreme West of Ilha de Tavira «aimed at artificially feeding stretches of the Ria Formosa cordon, to the east of the island of Armona, in the seafront area known as Praia da Fuseta, and to the west of the island of Tavira, through sediments that will come from the desilting of the Fuseta bar channel and confluent channels, allowing the improvement of the conditions of hydrodynamic circulation», explains Sociedade Polis in a note sent to the newsrooms.

This work, worth 1,9 million euros, under the responsibility of Sofaeia – Sociedade Farense de Areias, SA, has an execution period of 180 days.

 

The total value of the two contracts is over 3,4 million euros, with funding provided by the State and community funds, through the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (POSEUR) and CRESC Algarve 2020 (Operational Program for the Algarve) . This amount includes the execution of the projects and studies, the contract works and even the inspection of the works.
