AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, which brings together the 16 municipalities in the region, will receive the UN certificate of adhesion to the “Resilient Cities” campaign, in a ceremony to be held this Thursday, May 24th, at 17 pm, at Portimao Arena. 

This ceremony, in the context of the “Algarsafe” fair, will have the presence of Milos Gubic, UN representative, at a ceremony presided over by Eduardo Cabrita, Minister of Internal Affairs.

In addition to AMAL, which will be represented by its president Jorge Botelho, the 16 Algarve municipalities that also joined the project last year will receive a certificate, with the support of the District Relief Operations Command of Faro.

The “Resilient Cities” campaign is promoted by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and aims to recognize good practices that contribute to promoting disaster resilience at the local level.

AMAL assumes a pioneering role, as it is the only entity of a regional nature to join the initiative, contributing «thus contributing to give greater visibility to activities related to the prevention and preparation of responses to situations of catastrophe and serious accidents».

 

Program:

17:00 – Reception to the Minister of Internal Administration, Eduardo Cabrita, the honor guard of the Algarve Firemen;

17:10 pm – Presentation of ALGARSAFE`18; Portimão International Civil Protection and Relief Fair.

17:20 pm – Presentation of the Special Arrangement for Fighting Rural Fires in the Algarve (DECIR-Algarve), by Vítor Vaz Pinto;

17:50 pm – Framing and delivery of certificates of adhesion to the campaign promoted by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) “Resilient Cities”, to the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL) and to the 16 Algarve municipalities. Framework by José Oliveira, national director of Emergency Planning at ANPC and delivery of certificates by UNISDR representative Milos Gubic;

18:05 – Intervention by Jorge Botelho, AMAL president

18:15 pm – Intervention by Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, and vice-president of ANMP, responsible for Firefighters and Civil Protection;

18:30 – Speech by the Minister of Internal Administration Eduardo Cabrita.

19:00 – View to the fair.
