Brazilian tourists have a «growing interest» in the Algarve, as evidenced by the accumulated growth of 42,5% in the number of guests, in March this year, compared to 2017.

According to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the «Brazilian market is already the eighth market in terms of the number of international guests in the Algarve».

«The tourist from Brazil who seeks the Algarve is a very interesting visitor, not only because of its high purchasing power, but also because it reveals a growing desire to discover the destination outside the high season and to explore the diversity of its tourist offer. », explains Dora Coelho, executive director of the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA), the agency responsible for the region's external promotion.

Last week, ATA participated in ILTM Latin America, the main event dedicated to the luxury tourism industry in Latin America that took place last week in São Paulo.

Participation in ILTM, where ATA and the associates who accompanied it had the opportunity to meet with some of the best travel operators and agents in Brazil dedicated to the segment luxury, allowed not only to promote the added value and differentiated offer of the region, but also to collect relevant information on the profile of this market and its vision for the Algarve.

Following the 78 meetings held there, ATA concluded that Brazilian tourists already have a great knowledge of Lisbon and the North of Portugal, and are now beginning to arouse their curiosity about the Algarve and its tourism offer.

Industry professionals no longer look at the region only as a sun and sea destination and are now starting to look for it to respond to other motivations, verifying, for example, a greater appetite for the destination for weddings and moons honey.

Other features of the region, such as the theme and water parks, the Autodromo or the natural beauty of the routes of cycling & walking existing ones begin to stand out in the preferences of the Brazilian market.

Now, ATA, like the University of Algarve, is participating in the “Portugal 360” event, which runs until Sunday, 20 May, also in Brazil.

This initiative aims to make known to the Brazilian market a new vision of Portugal, as an authentic, diversified, enterprising and modern country.

“In this context, we are extremely satisfied with the feedback which we have obtained in recent days, as a result of our presence at ILTM, and it is with great enthusiasm that we will now participate in the event “Portugal 360”, an initiative that will allow us to present, from different angles, a portrait of a country renovated, innovative and modern, a reality that is also transversal to the offer and promotion of the Algarve as a tourist destination», says Dora Coelho.

Through a diversified program, which includes lectures, workshops, entertainment actions and activation of national brands, among other activities, the Portugal 360 action will bring together audiences from different backgrounds, such as the economy, tourism, culture, gastronomy, sport, education and leisure, which here will have the opportunity to foster networking and be surprised by the capacity for renewal and reinvention of the Portuguese offer.
