The dance show “Brother”, by Marco da Silva Ferreira, one of the most recognized figures of the new generation of creators of contemporary national dance, takes place next Friday, May 25, at 21 pm, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano , integrated in the festival “Encontros do DeVIR”.
“Brother” is a creation for seven performers that establishes a complementary relationship with the previous work Hu(r)mano.
In both, «the focus is the dance existing in the context of a group, but they detach from each other in the temporal references and in the composition process», says Câmara de Loulé.
«If in Hu(r)mano urban contemporary dance is abstracted and formalized, in “Brother” we look for a common ancestry and look for points of affinity and similarity that have survived generational passages and are reminiscent of bodies and in the dance that is still developing today. What do we look for together through dance?».
The show is composed through constant mimicry among the performers that generates movement, behavior and patterns. A non-verbal vocabulary is developed that regenerates and transforms over time through commitments or unlockers that each individual manifests individually.
«Moving bridges between now and far are emerging and disappearing. At the macro-scale it is a reflection on inheritance, memory, codes, the learning process and transmission. “Brother” is also a nuisance (“bother”). An attempt at a common pulse, a feeling of belonging and affection, an echo of external forces and, deep down, an assumed fragility due to the realization of loss and finitude.
