The church of Santa Maria de Tavira will host a mass in honor of the firefighters, presided over by the Bishop of Algarve D. Manuel Quintas on Friday, June 1st, at 11:00 am.
This ceremony, promoted by the parishes of Tavira and Conceição, "aims to bless the peacekeepers for the new critical period of fire", according to the Town Council of Tavira.
«After the devastation recorded in Portugal, last year, in the context of forest fires, in which more than 115 people were lost, thousands of hectares and hundreds of homes, industries and companies were destroyed, it is important to warn, raise awareness and continue to work in order to avoid calamities», framed the Tavirense autarchy.
The Municipal Fire Department of Tavira will be present at the Friday mass.
