Three sailors qualified for the World Championship and another three for the European Championship. This was the result of the national qualifying race in the optimist sailing class for the Algarve teams that competed in it last weekend, 28th and 29th of April. 

Thus, Beatriz Cintra, from Clube Naval de Portimão (CNP), Guilherme Cavaco, from Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro (GCNF), and Vladislav Bedlinskyy, from Associação Naval do Guadiana, from Vila Real de Santo António, will represent Portugal in the World Cup, to be played in Cyprus. Beatriz Cintra is even second in the national ranking and first in the national female ranking.

The CNP Optimist team coach Frederico Coutinho Rato will also head to Cyprus as team leader from the corners team. As for the coach, it will be Filipe Castro.

For the European Championship, to be played in the Netherlands, the qualified Algarve sailors are Filipe Lopes, from CNP, Miguel Sancho, from GCNF, and Érica Porto, from Clube Náutico de Tavira. Here, the national team will be accompanied by coach Nuno Silva and by team leader Goncalo Boto.
