the airport of Faro it will be reinforced with 13 more inspectors from the SEF – Aliens and Borders Service as of 1 June, “in response to the increase in the flow of passengers at national airports foreseen for the summer season”.

In a statement released this Wednesday, the Foreigners and Borders Service also announced a reinforcement of 36 inspectors for Lisbon Airport, 16 for Porto, two for Ponta Delgada and two for Funchal.

In addition to this reinforcement, which will be in force until 30 September, the SEF said that “an internal competition is underway for the admission of 45 new inspectors in the SEF Investigation and Supervision Career, and an external competition for admission to the SEF personnel map for over 100 elements».

According to the security force, "this increase in human resources will allow, in the future, to continue strengthening the border posts, bearing in mind the expectation of a continuous growth in the number of passengers to be controlled."

the airport of Faro was in the news abroad, particularly in Ireland, due to the “chaos” that broke out in the passport control zone on May 6th, due to the lack of SEF inspectors. Irish tourists denounced on social media that there was only one inspector working, complained of “disorganization” and waiting times.

Alberto Mota Borges, Director of the Airport of Faro, said, at the time, to Sul Informação that this was a “one-off situation that should not be generalized”.

According to the official, a peak in traffic coincided "with a period in which, for operational reasons of the SEF, there was less availability of human resources, resulting in a reduction in the punctual capacity of border control".

The head of the Algarve airport infrastructure also guaranteed that "ANA Aeroportos de Portugal will do everything possible with the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) so that the situation does not repeat itself".
