Poetic journey towards the “beast” that is inside each one of us [photo gallery and video]

«Bestias is about the things we all have in common inside, all living beings. It's like an inner journey in search of what connects us all». But “Bestias” is also “a whole show, I mean, it's a journey, with many languages, dance, acrobatics, music, singing. And in this team there are also comedians and animals».

The words are from Camille Decourtye and “Bestias” is the show that her company “Baro d'Evel” is presenting, these days of the 25th of April, in Odeceixe (Aljezur), within the scope of the always surprising program of «Lavrar the sea".

In this contemporary circus show, marked by the beauty and multiple facets of the artists who participate in it (who sing, play, dance, perform acrobatics, humor, theatrical performance), there are animals: two horses and four birds.

“Animals are like guides. At times, they are the ones who indicate the direction, they are the ones we follow, at times they are the ones who follow us. It's like a dialogue. They have a role a bit like a chef, a master of ceremonies," added artistic director Camille yesterday, before the show, in statements to Sul Informação.

And what about those who oppose animal shows? Madalena Victorino, one of those responsible for the “Lavrar o Mar” project, demystifies: “That's why Bestias happens on the 25th of April. It's a real revolution for people, once and for all, to think that, in fact, there is a bad circus, which treats animals badly, but there is a good, fantastic circus, which treats animals with its sensitivity, its intelligence, your time, your way of being. And that's what Bestias is: you don't know who is more human, whether it's a horse or an acrobat».

Giacomo Scalisi, the other member of the couple responsible for «Lavrar o Mar», added that «this is not the first time it has happened» to bring shows of this kind to this part of the Algarve. «We are in the habit of bringing contemporary circus to tents like these», as happened in Monchique, on New Year's Eve.

"Our program includes very particular objects, which dialogue with this territory, with nature, with the strength that nature has, with the animals that are part of this universe," he added.

«Scheduling for the 25th of April is like celebrating this release. A release from this idea that the animal is mistreated and cannot be in the artistic milieu. On the contrary, we had the veterinarian herself who visited the animals and said that it is only good for them to have people's applause at the end of the show. It was a fantastic compliment!” concluded Giacomo.

The show “Bestias” opened last night and the 350 seats in the beautiful and original circus tent set up on the Malhadais football field (and clearly visible from the EN120 road), were sold out. For today, the 25th of April, there are still tickets, as well as for the three presentations, on the 27th, 28th and 29th of April, always at 21 pm. Tomorrow, the 26th, the show stops, so that the animals can rest. But, from what was seen yesterday, at the premiere, the Bonito and Shengo horses and the Gus, Zou, birds Farouche and Midinette enjoy and enjoy what they are doing there, with great freedom.

Tickets cost 7 euros for the general public and 5 euros for children up to 12 years old, and can be bought here. The show always takes place at 21 pm. And it's good to be there for a while before…because the show is still starting…before it starts.

The show is rated for over 6s and is not suitable for young children. Entry is prohibited after it has started, so as not to disturb the animals. It is also not advisable for people who suffer from severe hay allergies to watch “Bestias”. It's just that there will be a lot of hay in the air and a lot of dust there.

But what is really in the air these days is beauty and poetry, with “Bestias”.
