A sculpture by Carlos Bajouca, marking Praia de Odeceixe as one of the 7 Wonders – Beaches of Portugal, was inaugurated in that bathing area of the municipality of Aljezur, to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the elevation of Odeceixe to town.

The inauguration was attended by the mayor José Gonçalves, as well as the entire city council, and also with the president of the Municipal Assembly, presidents of Parish Councils, among many local people and visitors.

The sculpture is "composed of three elements, the sea represented by a set of waves, the rich marine fauna represented by a fish and the poetic history of the many stories of Odeceixe beach, represented by a starfish", explains the Chamber of Aljezur.

«The choice of noble materials in the design of the sculpture, the pink and ruitive marble, the limestone and the glass limestone for their colors and characteristics, fit in an exemplary way in the thunderous landscape of Odeceixe beach», adds the municipality.

Implemented on the front lawn of the access to the sand, the sculpture “will have two different readings for visitors: the first of those heading for the beach, the second that they are on the beach”.

The Praia Maravilha award was awarded to Odeceixe in 2012.
