Athletes from 34 countries will head to Portimão to participate in the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup of Portimão – Jogos Santa Casa, which will be held at Portimão Arena between the 11th and 13th of May.

This competition, one of the stages of the world circuit of rhythmic gymnastics cups, will feature 140 gymnasts, 56 individually and the others integrated in 14 groups.

According to the Portimão Chamber, which organizes the event in partnership with the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation and the Portimão Tourism Association, the event will count with «the world's elite in the discipline». And, although the confirmation of the names of the athletes who will be present only happens “in mid-April”, it is already possible to indicate “the biggest delegations in competition, namely Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan”.

Last year marked the return of the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup to Portimão, after an interval of several years. «The one that has already been dubbed the best World Cup on the circuit, due to its excellent organisation, logistics and infrastructure, is thus fighting for the conquest of its former status again», says the municipality of Portimo.

Entry to the event will be free, "an investment guaranteed by the Municipality of Portimão and justified by the municipality's proximity to this Olympic discipline and, in general, to sport."

To whet the appetite for this competition, between 4 and 6 May, the Portimão International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament will be held, which will give «an opportunity for younger gymnasts to compete in the same arena as the elite of rhythmic gymnastics worldwide».

This year, "45 junior gymnasts and 11 senior gymnasts are expected, with emphasis on the presence of countries like Italy and Russia."
