The decision to proceed with urgent works on the EN124, between Silves and Porto de Lagos, is "a positive step", but it "does not actually solve the problem" existing on this road, considered the municipal structure of CDU de Silves.

The communists publicly reacted to the announcement made. on Monday by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins, at a meeting with the mayors of the Algarve, in FarO. The government official assured the mayors that one million will be invested in "emergency works" on the EN124, EN125 and EN396, starting as early as May and ending "before the summer", as well as a major intervention. beginning in 2019 on these roads.

The CDU, coalition by which Rosa Palma was elected mayor of Silves, sees this Government decision as "fruits" of the population's protest actions, of the "pressure and persistence of the Parish Council and the Municipality of Silves" and of the interventions of communist deputies in the Assembly of the Republic, on the state of degradation of EN124.

«The Slow March of April 14, carried out with huge popular participation, more than two hundred vehicles, the presence of Deputy Paulo Sá (PCP) and the local authorities of Silves, certainly contributed to the responsibles to react», he believes the CDU.

Taking into account the «deplorable and calamitous state of the road that has dragged on for many years, endangering the lives of those who travel there, in addition to representing a bad visiting card for the image of Silves and the Algarve region», even with the advance of emergency works – to «fill holes», as Rosa Palma illustrated on the sidelines of the meeting with Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins -, the CDU promises to «keep high pressure with a view to the complete requalification of the section of the EN 124 (Silves – Porto de Lagos)».
