The City Council of Olhão handed over the keys to social housing fires to 23 residents, in a ceremony that took place this Monday, April 23rd.
The houses, of types between T1 and T4, are located in Bairro Fundo de Fomento de Habitação, Rua da Armona, Rua Manuel Oliveira, Largo da Feira, Bairro Horta do Pádua and Bairro Horta da Cavalinha, in Olhão. Houses located in Moncarapacho, Rua das Olarias, Pechão, Rua da Cruz Vermelha and Fuseta, Rua Nossa Senhora do Carmo were also awarded.
Before being awarded, the dwellings in question were the target of refurbishment works, which motivated an average investment of "15 to 20 thousand euros per house".
The attribution of these houses was made through a public draw, which took place in March, in a process that, underlined by the mayor of Olhão António Pina, "was carried out with maximum transparency".
The mayor of Olhão also made known the «process of moralization of access to social housing in the municipality of Olhão» that is being implemented, namely with regard to non-payment of rent, lack of maintenance of houses by tenants , or the permanence of a greater number of inhabitants than the dwelling holds».
This inspection, as well as the investment in the requalification of the housing stock, will continue, guarantees the mayor.
«It is an investment that we make with pleasure, so that those who live in these houses have the best conditions, but it is a public asset that we cannot allow to deteriorate due to misuse by those who live there», said António Pina.
