Very strong winds, probably a low intensity tornado, returned this afternoon to wreak havoc in the councils of Faro and Olhão, especially in the Forum Algarve area and the neighboring shopping and workshop area, as well as in Moncarapacho and Pechão.

Fallen trees and structures, such as building roofs, billboards and luminous advertisements, broken glass, vast urban areas without light due to falling poles and lines are the result of the strong wind that today, around 16:05 pm, has affected those areas.

The Civil Protection website has 19 occurrences in the municipalities of Faro, Olhão and Tavira, all related to falling trees, structures and electricity lines.

To what Sul Informação he found that there is no record of injuries, only very large losses.

At Forum Algarve, there is material damage, especially in the restaurant area, where nearly half a hundred protective glass were broken, chairs and tables were blown up. Customers who were there fled, taking shelter inside stores, but there were no victims. The shopping center is functioning, although some areas are closed.

In addition to this shopping centre, there was also damage to the roof of other commercial buildings in the vicinity, namely the premises of Volkswagen and other car brands and the BP fuel pump, as can be seen in the images.

Traffic is very restricted in the Forum area, at the entrance to Faro, due to the fall of a tree on the road, so if you can, avoid going there.

In the parish of Montenegro, near the Airport, there was also damage, namely with electricity and lighting poles and trees, fallen on the road to Praia de Faro, also forcing traffic to be restricted, which is restricted to a lane.

However, our newspaper found that it must have been a tornado, which was seen by several witnesses still on the Ria Formosa, which crossed part of the municipality of Faro and ended up also reaching the neighboring municipality of Olhão, especially in the areas of Pechão and Moncarapacho, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Last Wednesday, February 28th, Faro had already been hit by a which, in this case, caused damage mainly in the Doca area.
