Concerts by Paulo de Carvalho, Diogo Piçarra and Paulo Sousa, the staging of Moura Encantada and gastronomy festivals are some of the initiatives that will take place throughout the year in Tavira and were presented this Thursday, March 1st, on the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL).

In statements to the Sul Informação, Jorge Botelho, mayor of Tavira, said that the idea of the entire program is to show that the city “does not only happen in the summer”.

«Tavira will be full. In addition to the people who return, we find that, with each passing year, we have more people throughout the year and this fits our attraction dynamic», he added.

The list of events also includes Holy Week, taking place from March 16th to April 1st, with the traditional Procession of Triunfo.

Then, from the 6th to the 22nd of April, there is the Serrana Gastronomy Festival, whose challenge is to visit «various restaurants» in the county.

One of the novelties of this program is “Viva a Primavera”, which will have more than 70 initiatives, from the 21st of March to the 30th of June. Highlights will be the “Spring Show”, to be held on the 27th to 29th of April, in the Public Garden and Mercado da Ribeira, and a concert, already scheduled, by Paulo Sousa on the 28th. To celebrate the 25th of April , Tavira will have, in turn, a concert by Paulo de Carvalho.

For Jorge Botelho, it is important to «associate gastronomy, leisure and quality of life» throughout this program. Also for this reason, there is the Festival de Gastronomia do Mar, from the 18th to the 27th of May, or the staging of Moura Encantada, on the 23rd of June.

Then, you enter the “Summer in Tavira”, the initiative that “attracts more people” also because it is the time when there are more people in the county. "We have a lot of people and, therefore, we think that there must be a cultural offer provided by the Municipality, something that has gone very well."

The names of the artists were not, however, already revealed, something that will be done «at the right time». What is certain is that from the 1st to the 15th of July there will be “Street Scenes”, of circus arts. The “Summer in Tavira” lasts until the end of August.

From the 6th to the 9th of September, you can enter the Mediterranean Diet Fair, already a ex-libris de Tavira that is going to the 6th edition, and whose details have not yet been revealed either.

As for the Youth Week, BTL was the stage for the presentation of two confirmed names. DJ Piruka, on September 21st, and Diogo Piçarra, who was involved in the recent controversy of the Festival da Canção, the next day, they will give concerts in this initiative.

The program also includes sporting events, such as the half marathon in Tavira, on 21 October.

Basically, in Jorge Botelho's opinion, people “when they go to Tavira, they already know that there is something to do. Cultural agents are on the move and economic agents are also aware of the program”, he concluded.
