Singer Susana Travassos and composer Júlio Resende are the two Algarveans who this Sunday night will dispute the final of the Festival da Canção, which will take place at Multiusos de Guimarães and from where the 50th representative of Portugal at the Eurovision Festival will leave.

Susana Travassos will interpret the song «Mensageira», composed by Aline Frazão, which will be the second to be presented this evening, while Júlio Resende is the composer of «To smile, I don't need anything», which will be sung by Catarina Miranda.

This week, Susana Travassos starred in the big turnaround of this edition of the Festival da Canção. Having been in 8th place in the second Semifinal, played last Sunday, and therefore out of the final, she was called up again by RTP, after the also Algarvian Diogo Piçarra gave up, after the controversy of the alleged plagiarism of the song he performed and the which was the composer.

At the time, the newspaper “Blitz” had considered the removal of Susana Travassos as “the biggest injustice of the night”. «”Mensageira” was written by Aline Frazão for the voice of Susana Travassos. A “farewell song” with head and feet and an immaculate interpretation, with a flavor of Brazil and tango. Very beautiful. It was, for us, the biggest injustice of the night: I deserved to be a finalist, but the zero points from the public were not enough to compensate the eight of the jury», wrote the newspaper specializing in music.

But, with the withdrawal of Diogo Piçarra, who, in the second semifinal of last Sunday, had been the favorite of the jury and the public, Susana Travassos has now been called up again and gets a second chance.

Em statements to Sul Informação, on the night of February 27, when the withdrawal of Diogo Piçarra, Susana Travassos was known commented: «I didn't enter the Festival da Canção with many expectations, it was for the song itself and for Aline. But now I have this new opportunity and, despite having had little time to decide, I had to accept it, so I wouldn't be left thinking “what if…”».

In addition to the jury that will be at Multiusos de Guimarães this evening, for the Festival da Canção, the public can also vote for their favorite song. And this vote has already started.

So, whoever wants to vote for Susana Travassos/Aline Frazão, should call the number 760100802. Anyone who wants to vote for Catarina Miranda/Júlio Resende should call 760100305. Each person can call as often as they want.

How to vote for the final of the Festival da Canção:

After two semi-finals in which we know the vote of the resident jury, in the Final the voting will take place in a different way, with the participation of the public again and, this time, giving it even greater relevance.

Voting will be, this time, done by televoting and through the vote of a regional jury, in a weighting of 50/50.

7 administrative regions were considered: North; Center; Lisbon and Tagus Valley; Alentejo; Algarve; Azores and Madeira.

In representation of each region, RTP invited 3 elements from that region who will vote individually.

Of these 3 elements, only one will be a spokesperson and will go live during the emission of the Final of the Festival da Canção;

The Spokesperson will transmit the vote of that region which results from the sum of the votes of the 3 elements. This sum will be converted to the usual scoring system in place at the Eurovision Song Contest since 1975:
– 1st place – 12 points
– 2st place – 10 points
– 3st place – 8 points
– 4st place – 7 points
– 5st place – 6 points
– 6st place – 5 points
– 7st place – 4 points
– 8st place – 3 points
– 9st place – 2 points
– 10th place – 1 point

The result of the televoting vote, whose lines are already open, will be found by converting the calls into points, that is, the song with the highest number of calls will receive 12 points, the one with the second highest number of calls will receive 10 points , the one with the third highest number of calls receives 8 points. From the fourth most voted song up to the tenth, they will receive, respectively and in that order, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points.

The result of voting in the Final will then be the result of the sum of these two votes: televoting and regional jury.

The song with the highest number of points in this sum will win. In the event of a tie for 1st place, the song that received the most calls in the televoting will win.
