It will be an “out of the box” show, but based on traditional Algarve music. The project is still being designed, but it is already known that video will be added to the sound, in a creation that will pass through the 12 theaters of Azul – Rede de Teatros do Algarve, starting in the last quarter of this year.

This is one of the actions of that network for 2018, whose activity plan was presented last Friday, March 16, at the Municipal Gallery of São Brás de Alportel.

In 2018, there are four main vectors in the activities to be developed: training, support for creation and circulation, sharing of shows and the seminar.

Starting with the part of supporting creation and circulation, there is a difference in this activity plan. Instead of there being a open call, this time the network directly commissioned this show to a collective of artists from the Algarve, composed of João Frade, GiJoe (Rafael Correia), Ana Perfeito, Paulo Machado, João Guerreiro and Emanuel Marçal.

What will be a show "very identity of the region", however, has the objective of being able, even in the future, "to extrapolate the network and be seen nationally and, perhaps, internationally", said Gil Silva, director of Teatro das Figures, of Faro.

The accordionist João Frade, who will be one of the project's coordinators, attended the presentation of the activities plan and, to the Sul Informação, explained that this will be a «multidisciplinary» creation.

The project is “being designed at the moment” and is scheduled to debut in the last quarter of the year. “We want to bring different things to people. The possibility of reaching so many auditoriums is very good», referred the musician to our newspaper.

With regard to training, Gil Silva explained that the idea is “to train our technicians, within the network, in order to give them more qualifications”. One of the difficulties noted is the “lack of technical skills, at the level of many professionals in the area”, he considered.

Therefore, the first training will be in the technical area, but there will also be others for communication and marketing and production and programming. All actions will be given by the technical team assigned to Teatro das Figuras, in the second quarter of this year.

In addition to the aforementioned spectacle, there is another high point in Azul's activity plan for this year, which promises to be disconcerting. In November, there is the intention to hold the seminar “Periferias”, in a location yet to be defined, but preferably in one of the Algarve's municipalities outside the central axis.

And what will this seminar be for? Basically, to get everyone thinking about what it is to do cultural programming outside the big urban centers.

Dahlia Paul

Dália Paulo, Municipal Director of Loulé and one of the creators of Rede Azul, enunciated, after leaving a word of homage to Joaquim Guerreiro, also one of the mentors of this project, some of the issues that will be debated: «What is this about programming in the peripheries ? And what are the peripheries? Will not be the new centralities?».

Answering some of these questions, in the opinion of the former commissioner of “365Algarve”, the peripheries provide something that big cities cannot: «time to reflect and to create». The seminar does not want, however, to «hear only those from outside», but rather «everyone», so that one can «reflect on what is creation in the Algarve».

Finally, the last area to be worked on will be the sharing of shows, between the network rooms, and will start by «preparing the future». In other words, involve the Educational Services area. The choice was made “not because it is easier, but because working the educational service is to reflect on what we want to present”, explained Dália Paulo.

«We are going to work with the public», but more focused «on the younger age group. This is what leaving the seed for the future is,” said Dália Paulo.

This seed that Vítor Guerreiro, mayor of São Brás, hopes will also grow in his county. “This is undoubtedly an important project that creates new forms of attraction to bring tourists here. I want this to be a network of excellence», referred the mayor.

The Municipal Auditorium in Albufeira, Lagoa and Olhão, Casa do Sal in Castro Marim, the António Aleixo Cultural Centers (Vila Real de Santo António) and in Lagos, the Cine-Teatros António are part of Azul – Algarve Theater Network Pinheiro (Tavira), Louletano and São Brás de Alportel, as well as Teatro das Figuras, in Faro, Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório (Silves) and TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.
