The 24th edition of the Volta ao Concelho de Loulé, a stage event for juniors to be played between Thursday and Saturday, is the competition highlighted in the cycling schedule for this first week of school holidays.
The Tour of the Municipality of Loulé is one of the most important and traditional races for juniors on the national calendar. In 2018, Loulé's roads will receive 21 teams, including three from Spain and one from France. The runners will complete four stages, over three days, totaling 258,8 kilometers.
The race starts on the 29th with a short and essentially flat stage, starting and finishing at Loulé City Hall. The connection will have 59,2 kilometers, starting at 16:30 pm and ending around 18:00 pm.
The next day the journey is double. Departure and arrival also take place at the headquarters of the city of Loulé, but the route is already more demanding than the first stage. Cyclists depart at 10:00 am for a journey of 81,3 kilometers passing through Eira da Cevada and Picota, which should end shortly after 12:00 pm. Between 17:00 and 20:30, the Pista Bexiga Peres watches a team time trial, in which each group will complete ten laps.
The queen stage is saved for Saturday. It will be a link of 115,8 kilometers, departing and arriving at the Loulé Municipal Pavilion and passing through Alte and Barranco do Velho, totaling a positive slope of 2037 meters. The game will start at 10:00 am, with the final expected to take place at 13:15 pm.
Still in the Algarve and taking advantage of the school holidays, Clube Bicross de Portimão organizes an open day of BMX at the Parque da Juventude portimonense track, on Saturday 31 March. The occasion will be indicated for young people to experience this Olympic cycling discipline, between 15:00 and 18:00.
In the Algarve, at the weekend, there will also be two other official cycling events: Rota das Estevas in mountain biking, Monte Ruivo, Alte (Loulé), on March 30, and the New Rota do Folar, Odeceixe (Aljezur), in day 31.
